{Stairs: A Key Component in Building Style

Stairs are more than just a means of moving between levels; they are a integral part of a building’s design. With so many designs to choose from, staircases can be adapted to meet the requirements and styles of any space. Whether you prioritise functionality or style, there’s a stair design that can meet your needs.

{U-Shaped Staircases: A Timeless Design Detail

The design of U-shaped stairway designs involves two flights of treads with a landing that reverses direction. This option is typically seen in expansive homes or structures with generous vertical dimensions. Despite their grand look, U-shaped staircases have a compact design that optimises space. The landing is a useful feature that can also elevate the stair’s aesthetic appeal. U-shaped stairway designs exude luxury and are often seen in luxurious or classic interiors.

{The Functionality of Curved Stairs

These stairs are celebrated for their elegant, curved design that curves gracefully upward. Unlike Spiral designs, Curved stairway designs have a gentler turn, providing a more open climb. Curved stairway designs are a signature element in luxurious homes, traditional properties, or high-end hotels, where they make an impact as a focal point. Creating Curved staircases requires a significant amount of skill and is often more high-end than other styles. Despite the expense, Curved staircases create a magnificent focal point that transforms any interior.

{Floating Stairway Designs: A Sleek Feature

Floating staircases are characterised by their clean design, which makes the treads appear to hover in mid-air. These staircases achieve their suspended look by being anchored to a concealed structure, avoiding visible elements. Floating stairs are often used in modern interiors to create a spacious feel. Without bulky supports, Floating staircases let other design elements, such as artwork, shine. While stunning, Floating stairway designs require precise engineering to ensure safety.

{Spiral Stairs: A Versatile Design Element

These stairway designs feature a circular design, with treads curving around a helical axis. The Spiral design is great for compact spaces, such as outdoor areas, where conventional steps are too bulky. Materials like wood are commonly used, giving Spiral stairs a versatile look. These staircases are efficient but may pose challenges for people with physical limitations or heavy loads. Their distinctive look makes them a common option for elevating the aesthetic appeal of a space.

{Bifurcated Stairway Designs: A Symbol of Opulence

This design of stairway design is characterised by its balanced design, commonly used in grand buildings. The design of Bifurcated staircases involves a primary flight that divides into two at a landing, typically turning in different ways. Bifurcated stairs are admired for their dramatic look, making them ideal for formal spaces. The balanced design ensures a symmetrical appearance, often complemented by decorative banisters or lighting. Although they need a lot of space and a larger budget, Bifurcated staircases are a classic symbol of elegance.

{Staircases: A Essential to Revealing Design Potential

Stairway designs are a powerful reminder of how design can combine utility with artistic expression. From sleek Floating stairs to elegant Curved designs, staircases can enhance any space into something special. Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'

Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.

Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.

The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
